Have you ever wondered what it would be like if they made an 8 bit version of Halo? Well they did. Who are 'they' anyway?
Anyway, Metroid is an awesome action-adventure game for the NES and that released in 1987. Metroid shares many similarities with Halo and really brings back nostalgic value to your everyday life! So what is it that makes this game so good?
The controls are tight and the game is somewhat of a mix between linear and non-linear gameplay. Can you imagine being an awesome soldier in space gear killing aliens as a girl? That’s one thing that makes this game so unique.
The weapon upgrades in this game are outstanding. You start off with a weak power beam, but can collect power ups to enhance your special abilities, like armor and weapons. You also have the ability to curl into a “Morph Ball,” which is useful for getting into small spaces or even somersaulting your way into an enemy and killing them!
The game takes place in the Metroid Universe. Space Pirates attack and seize Metroid creatures. Metroids can latch onto any living organism and kill it. The Space Pirates plan to destroy anything opposed to the Metroids. You (Samus Aran) are chosen for the mission to rid the Space Pirates and their commander once and for all!
If you’re looking for a great 2-D sidescrolling, space shooter for your NES (or emulator on your Android), I highly recommend playing Metroid. You can’t go wrong with all of the weapons, armor upgrades, and the difficulty that’s served up in this game. Even though there are similar games out there, Metroid is unique in its own way and has definitely inspired an entire plethora of video games.
